Our Story

Distinctive Towns & Regional Landscapes (DTRL) creates place-inspired, watercolor-style artwork celebrating towns and regional landscapes.

Based in Hillsborough, North Carolina, this project began when my partner and I were looking for artwork that reflected the places we love in a more meaningful and personal way — and decided to create it ourselves.

Each piece is thoughtfully created and shaped by our vision.  Our illustrations are inspired by real locations but designed to feel warm, timeless, and emotionally resonant rather than literal.

What started as something we made for ourselves has grown into a collection of place-based art for homes, gifts, and keepsakes, with new towns and regions added over time.
